Workshop puppet making

In january 2024, Caroline Walotka came to Genk to give us a workshop on puppet making. It was an amazing opportunity to learn from a professional.

Preparation

Before we started the workshop, we were asked to prepare a character. I used the character from my bachelor's project so I could use the puppet for my movie.

Building

A R M A T U R E

We started the armature by cutting copper sticks and gluing them together. We used two different sizes so we can detach the limbs in case they break.

The next step was adding epoxy clay around the armature. I also twisted wire to make the arms, legs and waist.

We used foam to add volume to the puppet.

To make the hands, we first made a mold of hands we sculpted. Once the mold was done, we filled it with silicone.

With the knowledge I gained during this workshop week, I am currently finishing this puppet at home.
