NAHOJ
Together with Caitlin Schrooten, Inès Van de Ven and Ramses Vandewalle (Lemmens Institute) we decided to take a different look at animation. Instead of the usual order: first animation then sound, we flipped it around.
Pre-production
After some initial brainstorming, Ramses provided us with a music track he composed himself. Us animators then based ourselves on his music to make an experimental animation.
The line with reality blurs as our main character, Johan, struggles with hallucinations. Guided both visually and auditory, we follow him in his distorted mind.

A storyscore is the combination of a storyboard and a music score. This is what we used to visualize how we wanted to portray our story.

We used a mix of 2D animation and live-action in Nahoj. The beginning and end are shot in live-action with an actor playing Johan. Once Johan starts hallucinating, we switch to 2D.
For the backgrounds we decided to use pictures. We went to Koersel to take pictures of red streetlights. This fit our setting perfectly.

Simultaneously we also worked on developing the characterss. Inès Van de Ven designed our main character and the spider, I designed the clown.

I animated the sequence where the main character gets confronted with the clown. Both Caitlin and Inès helped out where necessary.
