Tales of the Origin
Together with my class, we made an exhibition where we portrayed the original Grimm's fairy tales using stop-motion.
Together with Anke Vaneylen, Tessa Vermeer, Inès Van de Ven and Laure Luyten, we decided to handle the old story of Pinocchio. In this version, Pinocchio is undercover as a donkey. He gets thrown in the water and his donkey skin gets eaten by fish. We also decided to portray the scene at the end of the story where the town villagers burn him alive.

I mainly worked on the underwater scene. We decided to use cutout animation. I started off with prototypes to make sure the puppets can move how I want them too.

Next, I cut out the shapes out of colored paper for both the donkey and the fish. The joints were made with a thin yarn.

The background consists of multiple planes. For our animation itself, Inès and I painted a big piece of paper. In our setup, we wanted to put glass planes in front of the screen to create depth. We decorated these planes with elements you would find underwater, like seaweed and a sunken ship.
